I've had my LC20 SFB kit for several years now, but have only managed to get 300 hours building time so far. Progress is picking up, though, and I hope to have the landing gear retracting/extending next month. I have read all the past e-mails posted here, though I only discovered this site a few weeks ago. (And yes, I've sent my money -- it's worth every penny and more!) I have the short engine mount, and it is installed with the nose gear attached and the stainless/fiberfrax in place. I'd like to avoid switching to the long mount if I can (though I wish I'd installed the longer one). I don't know whether I have the long or short cowl. My plan is to use an O-360 with a 3-blade MT hydraulic propeller. 1) Will I have to do surgery on the firewall (that could be avoided with the long mount) for any reason? (fitting the prop governor, for example) 2) How far forward is my CG likely to be in this configuration? I plan to mount the hydraulic pack behind the seat. I'll have a header tank with the outer wing bay dry. Battery behind the seat (probably, unless I can move it up). 3) Has anyone besides Angier changed from the short to the long? What problems did you encounter? 4) A previous post by Tom Giddings stated that there was no forward CG shift with the longer mount. How is this possible? Can anyone else confirm this? I've flown in two 360's. One had a small tail and was so pitch sensitive I thought it's airworthiness certificate should be revoked. The other (Orin Riddell's) had a large tail and flew like a dream. I suspect the pitch sensitivity had much more to do with CG location than tail size. I don't know whether the small-tail 360 had Bill Russell's the elevator control horn "modification" done. Thanks in advance. - Rob Wolf RWolf99@aol.com Lompoc, CA
