In Kent Pacer's book, Speed with Economy, he experiments with moving the air intake in very close proximity to the prop.  His results were quite good as well.  I found his book to be well written, with reasonable empirical data to support his results.  His experience with what works well and what gives marginal return seems to be valuable information.  I want to do the things that will give me the most bang for the effort and then move into the fine refinements later.
