I forgot to mention that there is usually no fee for performing an
airworthiness certification inspection if done by the local FSDO Inspector.
DAR's on the other hand are allowed to charge for their services (and may be
easier to schedule). Inspection fees might be a set rate of $400 or $500, or
simply an hourly fee -- it's up to the DAR.
