My local State Farm agent said that my project would not be covered by my
homeowner's policy. As such, I contacted a local aviation insurance broker,
Shannon Guidry (Mid-Continent Aircraft Corporation at 800-280-2884) and he
shopped around for "Ground, not in-motion" coverage (except for Avemco -
they apparently don't go through brokers). He obtained a policy for me
through HCC Aviation Insurance Group, Inc. The premium was $500 for a
nominal 39k$ of damage coverage. They insisted that I also have 500k$ of
liability for another $150. I didn't fight it at the time because I was in
a hurry to obtain coverage prior to picking up my kit from the freight yard
and thought it might not be a bad idea to have it while pulling a 20' long
crate down the highway. When the next premium is due I will shop it around
again and also consider going the "self insured" route ...
See you at the SNF balloon launch Sunday morn (if it actually happens this
year ....)
