To Ted Stanley:
Acetone evaporates too fast for you to get all the crap off the surface. At
best, it only spreads contaminates around smoothly. Use "Klix" pre-paint
cleaner. Should be available from any good auto paint store.
I used Klix and then made up several coupons for pull testing. The
fiberglass failed before the bond joint.
Areas to be cleaned prior to bonding should be flooded with cleaner and then
sopped up with the cheapest paper towels available (white, no color
printing). Klix does not evaporate quickly so it keeps the contaminates in
solution so they can be soaked up, rather than redepositing them.
Incidentally, this is the stuff recommended by Lancair at the time I built
my 235. In my opinion, they were right.
