Phil Sexton of Australia asked where to get Gun Blue for his gear legs

Phil,

Gun Blue is a liquid metal treatment for refinishing the barrels of guns.  In America, it is sold in every store that sells guns.

Because we have 200 million guns in America, and because we are always carrying our guns everywhere we go, the barrels tend to get worn, and the blueing is used to restore the dark finish.  When an American pulls out his gun to protect himself, it is important that it look good.  Carrying a scratched, worn piece is bad form, and will cause a person to loose respect.

It is going to be a problem for you in Australia, where guns are are rare as Duck-Billed Platypuses.

It is an additional problem for you because the chemical, Selenous Acid, is not shippable by mail.  And, if you carried a bottle of the stuff into an airport terminal, you would immediately be surrounded by twenty security guards pointing newly-blued Smith & Wessons at you.  Newly -blued using their own bottles of Gun Blueing at home, I might add.

I, myself, have several bottles of the stuff on hand at all times.  When I was forced to protect my family with a gun in 1975,  the policeman commented on how nice it looked. Even the judge, who was a woman, commented on how nice it looked.  The jury must have thought it looked fine, too, because they found me not guilty of Assault with a deadly weapon.  The four guys that I took out of the Ford Bronco at gunpoint must have thought it looked fine too, because two of them were peeing their pants, it looked so fine.

In any event, you are going to have a problem getting Gun Blue in Australia.  Maybe a trip over to Indonesia may do the trick.  I understand there is a rebellion going on there with lots of guns.  But it depends on whether Indonesians are proud people who like their guns to look good.  If they are not, they will probably have no gun blue in their gun stores.

I understand that Al Qaida has several cells in Australia.  If they blow up one of your skyscrapers, maybe there will be a hue and cry to bring back gun ownership again.  In that case, your problem will be solved.  Once the average man on the street feels the heft of a Smith & Wesson in his pocket while he is cooking Barbies in his back yard, he will generate a huge market for guns.  Along with guns, of course, will come Gun Blue.   Problem solved.

Good Luck,  David Jones, long-time NRA member
