In March1999, three years ago, a friend ordered a model of my Lancair 320 from Anderson Fine Scale Replicas of Derby, Kansas for my 60th birthday. I was very pleased. Some months later, the model arrived and it was superbly crafted except that the mounting grommet on the belly was missing. I was asked to return it, but unfortunately enroute the shipper damaged the model beyond repair. Because Anderson's model maker in the Philippines no longer had my photographs, I was asked to take new ones so the model could be replaced. Nearly a year later, the replacement arrived. This time the craftsmanship was dreadful. It hardly looked like a Lancair and the painting was primitive at best. Once again, the model was returned with the promise that all would be set right. Despite repeated calls, the replacement has never arrived. Today, I learned that "Mrs. Anderson recently visited their manufacturer in the Philippines, saw my model and judged it to be unsatisfactory." If I would again provide photographs, a new shop in the Philippines could have the model in 90 days. Unfortunately, I sold the plane in December and don't have photographs detailed enough to replicate the paint scheme. Also, I have lost confidence in and patience with the folks at Anderson. Has anyone had success with another model maker? It would be worth troubling my airplane's new owners for a set of photos, if I felt comfortable that a good model would be forthcoming. Oh, the money will be returned....thanks....for nothing. Byron M.
