If the strike was severe enough to cause a sudden engine stoppage or at the least, require complete replacement of the prop, some very nasty things could have occurred inside the engine. >From the forces resulting from a prop strike/sudden stoppage, the crank can suffer a crack if not outright failure. If the engine is a type that incorporates counterweights (harmonic dampeners), they can get flailed around bad enough to be ruined and at the least, the prop flange can bent out of limits. Just replacing the prop may be false economy.
