Greg, We've got PPG base and clearcoat on 5ZQ. We have all internal
antennas and no static wicks or grounding straps. We've had no static
problems whatsoever when flying in clouds. All transmission and reception is
5x5 and last night I picked up a VOR station at 125 miles at 11,000. Haven't
tried snow yet. In my experience dry snow is a pretty good static producer.
We'll probably have the answer to that one soon though. A true metalic paint
will, I think, preclude the use of internal antennas. Be sure to check this
out before making your final decission on paint or your plane will look like
a flying pin cushon!
