Hi Bob, The other day I was coming south just on the warm side of a cold front. I was running through some tops at 14,000 with an indicated OAT of +1. I picked up some clear icing that streamed back from the leading edge onto the flaps and ailerons. Formed fairly fast and other than actually seeing in on the wings, the first aircraft change I noticed was a reduction in IAS of about 15 knots. The airplane displayed no other adverse characteristics and the ice sublimated off in about 10 minutes once I got (and stayed) out of the tops. This was in S&L cruise so there was plenty of room in the envelope in all directions and I had 12,000 feet of warm air below me. I sure wouldn't like to see that kind of ice forming on an approach though.
