While not to minimize dangers, you need to keep a certain balance and understand that we live in a litigious society. Have you ever read an MSDS for acetone? Or an MSDS for normal resins that are used for general purpose fiberglass that contain between 40% and 55% styrene? For years, if you have a wife/daughter that used hair spray, MC was used as the solvent 'carrier' for the hair spray 'glue'. It was used because it would flash off in the distance between the nozzle and the head but get the 'glue' out of the can. So for years (up to about 4-5 years ago) nearly every morning some women were getting a dose of MC. I personally have worked with the material for 20 years and prefer using it rather than acetone both for its cleaning ability and the fact that it is not flammable. If you look at an MSDS for MC, I think you will have a hard time finding one that says that it is a known carcinogen. It is suspected because in very large doses rats have had an increase in tumors. http://www.lakes-environmental.com/toxic/METHYLENE_CHLORIDE.HTML http://www.hsia.org/white_papers/methchlor.htm http://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/chemicals/chem_profiles/methylene/health_met. html Above are some sites that describe MC.
