Thanks for your information on the "long spacer on the axel" approach to the
problem. First, I am trying an easier method. If that doesn't work, I may
have to go back and do what you did or perhaps the axel knurling method that
was mentioned the other day.
I am making two changes. The GM31 spacer as supplied by Lancair will be
replaced with a spacer from a Cleveland brake kit. It is part number A484,
1/4 inch wide and is a larger diameter than the GM31. When installed it
butts up against the seal of the bearing and should hold the inner race of
the bearing stationary on the axel. Also, I will put a drop of "Sleeve
Locker" on the axel before sliding the inner race of the outboard bearing in
place. I have High Hopes.
I have no information on where to buy the Castrol Syntec grease.
