Just about finished remodelling the standard cowling for a 200hp io360. This
involved about a 60% rebuild. The easiest way (for me) was to cut the lower
half longitudinally in two making the pieces more manageable. Holes were
then cut to allow the intake manifolds to protrude and the maximum
protrusion located and measured. The holes were then covered and potters
clay was used to build a profile to cover the protrusion. The neat trick was
that only one side had to be done since a single cloth layer can be "popped"
while green to produce a mirror image mould for the other side. The same
method was used for the upper cowl to slightly increase height over the
lateral front of the cylinders. So far the results are excellent.
