We had no problems clearing any European Aviation Authorities. We had a lot of
problems in the Middle East. We were forced to get clearance to over fly Iran as
for some unknown reason Saudi Arabia would not allow us to over fly their
country.
It turns out that flying over Iran was actually the best way to go! The Iranian
ATC were just like any other ATC though a bit hard to understand.
If you plan on a flying tour of the Middle East, I would suggest you get started
early on your permissions. Allow at least two weeks possibly a month or more!
Europe was not a problem and everybody in Europe was friendly and helpful. Take
your check book as everything is expensive. We averaged about $6.25 per gallon
for 100LL, plus landing fees and flight planning/filing fees. I have grown to
appreciate how lucky we are in the US to be able to jump into our airplanes and
just fly anywhere anytime.
