<<What temperature do you need to get to anneal the
aluminum? My household oven goes to 500 F or so. Will this do? (Obviously,
with this approach I need to wait until my wife is out of the house...)>>
500 deg F will begin to anneal the flared tubing, in particular the work
hardened areas. However, this will also affect the temper of the B-nuts and
sleeves, assuming you are using the aluminum variety. These are typically 2014
or 2024 aluminum and 500 deg F is above the aging temperature for these two
alloys. I would stick to local heating of the flared ends only.
