Eh? I never was good at plumbing -- frequently mis-bending tubing an inch or two, long or short and flaring the end before putting on the sleeve and nut. I always thought flare was what you did before landing! I must have used 20 more feet of tubing than anyone else and ended up with a bent collection that provided pop art for a corner of the garage. Worse yet, I used the German torque chart, Gut-Und-Teit Uber Alles, for securing the nut. Thanks for the comments on methodology for making good flares and properly tightening the nut. This includes an earlier, perhaps forgotten, point that using a tube cutter (especially a dull one) can work harden the very area that is going to be stretched and thinned during the flaring process -- a sure formula for cracked flare ends. Use a sharp hacksaw blade, file the end square and clean up any burrs before flaring. My Legacy project will be so much better, not only from personal experience but also from the shared knowledge gained here on the LML.
