There has been som discussion aroumd hiring builders. It has been suggested
that there be strick controls and penilties instead of trust and
understanding.
If you can afford to own Lancair aircraft then you have had experience
looking after your financial intrests, and can enter a buisness relationship
causiously. Always let your eye be your guide and your money the last thing
you part with. In other words go and look at the facilities, check the
condition of tools and equipment, discuss a payment arrangement that will
ensure the builder can cover his expenses and stay in business. If the deal
seems too good it likely is. If he is constantly working underfunded or
rushed to meet arbitrary time lines corners may be cut. Aviation has always
been a hurry up and wait industry. Take your time be sure that the quality
is above all your first priority. Saving a few bucks, and getting it done
when you want it is not as important as your safety. Reward quality work do
not set unrealistic expetations. Treat others as you would want to be
treated, builders are human beings trying to make a living. respect and
trust will come as you see your project unfold
