The wing incidence for the ES is +2 degrees, and the manuals I have
call for HStab incidence of 0 degrees, which makes the incidence relative to
the wings also 2 degrees. With the IO-550 engine, however, which most
builders are installing, the plane tends to be nose-heavy. In my last
conversations with the factory, I think they are recommending a slightly
negative incidence angle for the HStab, say about -0.5 degrees, to counter
the nose-heaviness. This should help a bit with getting the nose trimmed up
on approach.
What you will probably find, however, is that the pre-built saddle for
the HStab does not put the incidence right. You'll have to slide the HStab
back and forth until you find just the right incidence angle, then modify
the saddle as needed for a good fit. Also, you need to spend some time
making a good jig for the HStab in order to get the incidence angle
measurement accurate.
