I am using 2" wide leading edge tape on my wings and horizontal stab on my
ES.  I have flown with and without it and the plane seems to perform better
without.  However, the leading edge stays in better shape "with".  I am
hoping to get some input as to what performance difference, if any, I can
expect and, if there is significant difference, what tape would be the least
penalty.  Thanks for the help.

Also,  my plane appears to suffer a lot, performance-wise, in the hot climate
of summer.  It seems to do considerably better in the colder conditions.  I
am wondering what performance degradation is caused by heated air and if
there is some rule of thumb that would help me know what to expect. I have
read some performance charts for various planes that show very little
difference in TAS from -20 to standard to +20 at altitude.  Mine seems to
have a wider performance window than, say, a Bonanza. As it is,  I only know
the plane didn't do very well last summer, did fine over the winter and is
not doing very well this summer.  Appears to be about 8 ktas down in hot
weather.  I don't know if the reduced performance is atmospheric or
mechanical. Another observation is that the slightest change in conditions
from ideal causes a reduction in speed.  Moisture in the air, clouds (even
smooth ones) or even a slight bit of turbulance slows the plane noticably.  I
will appreciate any sharing of experiences or insight concerning this
condition. Thanks for your help.  And, yes, I do know about density altitude
and how to compute it. I know it hurts takeoff and climb performance.   I
don't know specifically how it relates to the cruise performance of my plane.
 Thanks again for the help.
