Are you using the Ford starter solenoids that are included in the kit? Those
are the ones with the extra contact that activates the transition light.
Those solenoids are intermediate duty solenoids and have a polyethylene
guide for the contact plunger which deforms with very little heat. If the
pump runs very long these low resistance solenoids heat rapidly and can
deform the guide to the point the plunger rod can't travel freely. If the
guide is just slightly deformed it might give you an intermittent problem.
Those solenoids should be replaced with constant duty solenoids, which are
much robust, make a stronger contact and because they have higher
resistance, don't heat as much. You can identify the constant duty solenoids
by measuring the resistance across the coil. the constant duty solenoids
have 10 ohms+ and the intermediate duty ones have 3-4 ohms. The problem with
the constant duty solenoids is that they don't seem to make them with the
extra contact for the transition light. This is easily solved by installing
a silicon rectifier.
