I have about 225 hours on my ES with the IO550-G TCM engine. Cold >starting
is no problem. Hot starting can be--especially in hot weather. Most
problems occur in the 15-60 minute time range after shut down (such as >fuel stop on cross country flight).
Jim,
I have a Cont TSIO-360 engine that gave me the same problems as you describe. I tried all the suggested methods and a few of my own. I could never get confident that it would start every time. Very frustrating! Out of desperation I installed a Slick Start Magneto booster. It solved ALL my starting (or rather NOT starting) problems! That little $275 dollar box is the best gadget I've bought for my plane. It now starts every time on the 2nd or 3rd blade, hot or cold! I'm confident that it is going to start when I turn the key w/o any voodoo, prayers or special combinations of levers and fuel pump (I do however still purge the fuel lines when the engine is hot). Try one. I bet you will be as surprised as I was. (And no, I don't have a financial stake in the company <BG>)
