Carl Cadwell (N25CL), in the most recent Lancair Network News, makes a dozen
suggestions for things he would have done differently building his IV-P.
His #9 idea to use a long titanium rod to attach the rudder (in place of the
bolts) sounds like one I will do. The benefits are small or no holes in the
rudder leading edge and ease of rudder installation. Titanium is required
here due to its light weight. The rod needs to be nearly five feet long.
Now the big question: does anyone out there in builder land have a clue
where I may come up with a five foot by one quarter inch diameter titanium
rod? The search is on...
