This is the place to be -- here's why: Carsten, well known experimental aircraft designer, documenter, producer, pilot and now builder will fly in with his recently completed Legacy 2000. He will illuminate the inquiring minds of those in attendance. Gawking at, and the stroking of his plane will be allowed. Doug McCallister will have his finished, ready to be test flown IV-P (named Freedom) on display so you can see his extreme paint job. An eagle flying thru the flag. Words are not rich enough to describe the bottom painted eagle with a wing spread matching the plane. This is no miniature blot -- not merely a dark clot on the on the bottom to be mistaken for an oil spot -- no, this is big bird at its best! The wheel well doors barely contain the massive talons of this screamer. Creepers will be available for those with crickity knees. A multitude of other Lancairs will be available for inspection and there will be present a variety of building expertise -- old salts willing to be peppered with queries from all quadrants. Come one, come all to the North Central Lancair Fly In. Bring your cameras - use any means of transportation to get there if your Lancair is not yet flying -- hitch a ride with another flyer, take a burro, paddle your own canoe...just get there. Let Doug know if you are coming: Doug McCallister 815-744-7734 Mcgoose@mediaone.net Scott Krueger N92EX Lagacy Kit #2 Original Announcement follows: <<<< Builders, Pilots, Interested Parties (or interested in parties) – Lancairs of all shapes and sizes and other airplanes of lesser stature – Be advised that the 3rd North Central Lancair Fly-in will occur on Saturday and Sunday the 23rd and 24th of June, 2001 at the Joliet, IL Regional Airport (JOT), just 30NM SSW of ORD (Chicago, O’Hare). This is THE Feeless, Fussless, and Fearless Fun Filled Fly-in for Functioning Flyers. Every Lancair within 500 NM can be there in less than 3 hours; others that live a bit further will have to use a higher power setting. You can easily make it to JOT from Wichita, Fargo, Duluth, Iron Mountain, Toronto, Rochester, Roanoke, Atlanta, Memphis, Little Rock or places in between. Features: · Carsten will be flying his just completed Legacy from the Da Factree (Chicago-ese) to JOT. · Doug McCallister (Fly-in organizer) will debut his 99.999% complete L IV-P. Named ‘Freedom”, it has a paint job worth the trip alone. · Test your skill at putting your Lancair down where you want it. The Spot Landing Trophy is waiting for a skilled Lancair pilot. The splat landing will have no award. · Trophies for Judge’s Choice, People’s Choice, Furthest Distance Traveled. · Plenty of burgers, hot dogs and pork chops on the 24th. · Ample aircraft parking. · Nearby (walking distance) Hotels. See Below. · Forum so far planned for the afternoon of the 23rd is a Builder’s Panel chaired by myself with other builder volunteers (Please let Doug know if you would like to participate). · Suggestions accepted for other forums. · Looking for an Air Race? Want one similar to the Redmond 100 (about 60 NM)? A three legged (no racy jokes here please) race? We need someone to organize this. JOT has a 2940x100 hard runway (12/30) and a 3450x125 turf (4/22) runway for those of you that want to check your outback gear. AWOS at 119.975 and Unicom at 122.7. Hotels within walking distance are the Wingate (815-741-2100) and Best Western (815-730-7500). There are others and nearby floating casinos if you take risks above and beyond flying (pun intended). While fly-in reservations are unnecessary, please contact Doug if you plan on coming, have any questions or would like to volunteer.
