The John Deere permanent magnet alternator is even lighter than that. It looks pretty hard to beat when you realize that it would let you continue your flight on to completion, and even return to your home base if you prefer to fix the failed alternator at your leisure. FWIW, I saw a Jabiru a while back and it had a similar inductor coil setup to power the ignition, and possibly lights (I didn't ask). If you want to go down this path, you might take a look at the Jabiru for some ideas.
