Greetings,
I tried to install two ’88 NA
injectors that I got from Mazda, but found that the pintle was too large to
fit the plastic parts that are in the block. Rats!!! Otherwise, they're the same size as the 89-91 turbo injectors I had. Fortunately, I had the ones that Tommy
sent, which are 89-91 NA injectors.
These are also 460 cc, but had the oval plug, rather than the square
one that I was trying to end up with.
Since the oval plug fits the plugs that I already have, I installed
these 460’s as primaries for now, and
tried them out. My original goal was to improve idle, and end up
with the square plugs that you can get from MSD. I can forget the square
plugs for now, but at least the idle should improve.
Unfortunately, as far as I can tell there's
no difference at all.
The idle is the same, and very little change was made in the map
settings. The only change was at
lower throttle, but that actually was a little off before. Just hard to believe that it didn’t
make any difference. Idle is smooth down to about 1500, which is OK, but
lower would be better.
Also, the B controller still
runs rough at near idle. This started with the latest intake, and I can't
imagine why. I know this is just a tuning thing, but I’ll
be damned if I can make it happy.
Tried copy a to b, default settings, and
Tracy’s settings as a starting
point, but no joy. It’s running
fine, except when transitioning to idle, and when trying to maintain
idle. Very odd. This is
good enough for a backup controller, but it bugs me that I can't make it as
good as I've had it in the past.
At this point, I need
to put some hours on this thing, and get out of my experimental time.
I'd be willing to bet that the airport neighbors are pretty tired of hearing
me tuning too :-)
Rusty
Rusty, is your manifold pressure source different for
B than A?? Different plug, different
location??
