If you weight the option
of having the POV valve open in flight vs over boosting the engine, it is a no
brainer. I'll take the POV.

I agree with everything you said.
Unfortunately, the POV is a much better safety device for a car, that
doesn't have to operate at different altitudes. In the plane, if you
set it to protect the engine at sea level, you won't get the boost you
want at high alt. Set it for max boost at high alt, and you blow the
engine at sea
level.
