I did in fact get the Mitshubishi M1T707817X27 12V from AutoZone (turned in my automatic Mitshubishi M1T741816904 12V as core) at $100. I actually think it's not direct drive; website listed it as planetary gear. AutoZone is by far the cheapest and has it as a store stock item (so you can return it in case it doesn't fit). The starter I had on the Ross drive is about 2 - 2.5 pounds heavier, so I just need to shave off 3 pounds from the mount plate and I'll break even on the weight. The early verion of Tracy's I have weighs in at 52 pounds including starter, flywheel and all hardware. The Ross weighs in at 49 pounds. If you're doing theoretical W&B for your airplane, do not disregard hardware (bolts, washers, nuts, spacers).
