Thanks to all who commented
on the TB choice. I have ordered a 65mm Edelbrock unit that fits a 5.0L
mustang.
Thanks also for the links
to places who sell parts. Alex, that link was great!
Finally, thanks to Ed for
his pictures, even though he's messing with my mind. I could have sworn
that his last intake had only two tubes, not four like in the pics he
sent. Of course his adjustable intake does have two tubes. I was
actually looking for pics of how the two tube chamber was made, but I think I
understand.
I had 4 hours of dodging
tourists along Hwy 98 today to think about my plans. I'll describe my
plans, and I'd like to hear any comments you might have.
The plan is to use the
Atkins short, straight intake that I got from Dave L. This takes the four
ports, and combines them into two, with a 2" ID hole on the TB end. It has
two bosses on top of the secondary runners, which (as someone pointed out
earlier) are spaced perfectly for the stock secondary fuel rail. I'll plan
to install two injectors there, as well as the normal two primaries in the
center housing. I'll then take two pre-bent 45 degree pieces of 2"OD x
.065 tubing, and weld them to a flange that will bolt to the intake where the TB
normally goes. The bend will angle down, to clear the cowl, but stay
above as high as possible above the exhaust. This will likely be cut
off about two inches after the bend, and will complete the intake portion.
The TB portion will be (unfortunately) made from fiberglass, due to the goofy
shape. The plan will be to make a U shaped tube out of fiberglass, that
fairs into a flat portion on the bottom side, just large enough for the
65mm TB. I'll connect the two pieces with rubber hose for
testing/tuning purposes, but will likely replace the rubber with aluminum tubing
once a final length is reached.
OK, so there it
is. What do you think? It will have to be a big improvement
over what I have now, at least in the throttle response category. If I can
manage to get any reasonable length out of the tubes, I can hopefully get some
tuning for power as well.
Thanks,
Rusty (I want to be just
like Ed)
