Well, Ed, I didn't give the "whole truth" - there
IS a bit of work to do in the "web document" itself - to add some text and
"hyper links" to reference the new photos, charts, text, etc, being added.
But, that's not too hard - we can talk off line.

Ed,
1) Don't worry about ". . . loading up your server with such stuff, . .
.."
.....- Unless
otherwise noted, Hard Drives in Servers will handle your files. Worries
about "memory" and "HD space" are relics of the 60's and 70's - your
time and mine.
....- Remember, 'Better' is the worst enemy of 'good'.
What you have 'now' is 'good' - what you can refine and re-do and research more
fully and document better, and edit for clarity, etc, etc, is 'better'.
Give us the 'good' stuff. As you learn 'how to' on that, you'll then have
the skills and understanding to replace the 'good' stuff with the 'better' stuff
- later.
2) I'm still learning how to "document" and
"present for peer review" on the web - last year (about May 2003?) I was
thrashing around a lot and received about 6 to 8 really good suggestions from
others on the RV list.
....- I have a summary e-mail on file where I
summarized what I learned (about 80-90% of what I needed).
....- Things like converting almost anything
to .pdf format using PDFfactory free software put out by Adobe - you just treat
it as a "printer" and select that printer on your print dialog box instead of
your regular printer. It then converts the Excel spreadsheet or anything
else to .pdf, you can view it, then you save it to a particular folder that you
pick for later uploading to the web site.
....- The other big tool is one for modifying
..jpg files -IRFAN. Again, free, easy to use, much more capable than the
old Kodak Microsoft piece of junk called "Imaging" bundled with Windows.
Then, I have a checklist for how I upload stuff (properly sized .jpg photos,
spreadsheets, text) to the website using an FTP program. It's not to hard,
just takes a checklist for me to keep it simple.
Back to 1): Put your stuff up on the server,
then, as you modify and refine it over the next months & years, it is easy
to upload the revised file and it replaces the old file - not a big deal.
If you need to delete an old file that is no longer "current" or needed or OBE
(overcome by events), just use the FTP pgm, highlite the old doc on the server,
and click delete. I'll help off-line anytime you want.
....- If all else fails and you simply don' want to
bother with uploading, just send your internet ready files to the host that is
offering to help you and he can easily upload them. That's what Frank van
der Hulst did for me with some RV-6 empennage stuff I wanted to share in 1997 -
he put it on the Bunny's Guide for RV- Builders.

Go here to see my clunky 'learning how to do it' web pages. Click the
"Builder's Log" and see some pictures I sized as 4 inches X 3 inches (I selected
"inches" and put in 4 as the width and pgm IRFAN filled in 3 as ht. That
converts and displays as 288 pixels wide X 216 pixels high. With IRFAN or
PDFfactory you can probably display all the charts and graphs you have, in
whatever size (full screen down to smaller) you want.
....- My FTP upload pgm is "C:\Program
Files\WS_FTP\WS_FTP95.exe" Can't remember if it was bundled with Windows
or if I downloaded it from a website. I like it - very easy to use (after
you've used it a couple of times - does that sound familiar?)

manifold tuning
Thanks Eric,
That is certainly an
attractive offer. I would like others to have to opportunity to review
the stuff, other's have different knowledge, experience and grey matter which
is always great to have available and to point out flaws that may
exist. Heck, some folks might even find it useful {:>). I do
have quite a bit on the rotary engine including material I have found over
the years that I found useful. Then there's the files I have developed
ranging from the Presentation Slides on the Dynamic Intake Effect, to
spreadsheets to 2D CAD drawings of parts of my systems, to links to others
such as Paul Yaws excellent web site and technical articles,
etc, etc.
Before, loading up your server with such stuff, let
me think about and suggest an categorization scheme for the material.
Or I am open to suggestions as I have no experience organizing or building a
Web Page.
Eric, I'll get to you off-line, so we don't clutter
up the list.
