Good planning Todd. My VS has no offset, but my mount does have 5/8" offset
to the left. I think a few washers will moving it to neutral or perhaps a
bit beyond.
In you case, I am not certain there is any great advantage to going to 2.85.
It is not exactly cheap. I estimate that the total investment will be
between $2500-$3000 for regearing and the new monster prop. Your turbo
installation appears to be working well so, in you case, I am not certain
your delta benefit would be commensurate with the cost.
While Tracy is still in the testing phase, I have asked him the same
question about effect on cruise economy. Thus far, it appears that to get
the same true airspeed under same conditions (at least with his aircraft)
that a 5% rpm increase is needed over the 2.17. This is the first tentative
look by Tracy and of course, things could change.
I must admit that my 7 years of flying my rotary powered RV has been
enormous fun and I am satisfied with the cruise and top end. But, the
prospect of increased takeoff and climb performance approaching what I saw
Tracy do was just to good to pass up. I had considered going turbo, but my
aircraft is slightly nose heavy as it is and 35 more pounds up front would
not have helped.
I clearly hang out with the wrong crowd at the camping area, have not seen
any gorgeous fiddle players.
