I'm amazed that it is holding up so > close to the engine. How many hours on these pipes? > Peter Allo Peter Thank you for your questions. They made me realize that my photo is very misleading. Allow me to correct. But first: SS flexible exhaust tubing available from J. C. Whitney. at: www.jcwhitney.com The photo does not show this but up close to the engine, my exhaust is made of industrial type water pipe from Canadian Tire. 2" o.d. Thick wall steel and heavy but long lasting. I used the Racing Beat exhaust flanges as a model and made up a 3/8 or 1/2 inch thick steel flange to which are welded the first pieces of 2" o.d. water pipe. From there the other pieces are screwed in: nipples, lenghts and bends, 45 and 90 degrees bends, as needed. From the exhaust flange going down and rearward, I have about 12" long of these bends and pipes. The 2" i.d. flexible SS tubings slip over the last 4" of pipes and is held in place by the exhaust temperature probes and their clamps. So the flexible SS tubing is protected by the steel pipe and is not directly exposed to the exhaust until about 12" from the exhaust port. I have only a few hours of use on this configuration, but I am hopeful that it will last reasonably long. I have used the water pipes since I began flying my Zenith in 1990. They are very long lasting. Yvon Cournoyer.
