Thanks for the ideas.  I've got several thicknesses of adhesive foam that I got from McMaster Carr, so I'll probably see if I can use it on the outside of the gap.  The adhesive has proven to be very good, so perhaps it will work OK.  I also like the stretchy neoprene idea as well. 
 
On the other hand, if the gap works out to be very small, I might try Tommy's duct tape suggestion at first, then remove it to see if it makes any difference.  The gap is at the very front of the duct, which should be the low pressure area, so how much leakage with there really be?  This will all depend on how small the gap ends up being. 
 
Finally, who ever got the idea to saturate fiberglass mat with RTV Marko?  It's a very interesting, yet bizarre idea :-)
