Not familiar with the EM2 but with some LCDs the contrast ratio needs to be adjusted to get any characters showing. Backlight is sometimes separate.

As long as P3-9 has 12 V, and P3-8 goes to ground, the screen should light up? How do I know if it’s an LCD? I would assume “no”, since the instructions say I would have been provided with “prewired dimmer switch”.
