And if I do that I really should
change the standard RV-4 cowl inlets to a round ones further
out in the prop wash to improve (ground) cooling.

Can you refer me to the literature that recommends putting
the cowl inlets as far outward as possible? I know there is a
lot of ‘common knowledge’ about this; turbulence at blade roots,
downward blade wash on right inlet cause in intake turbulence,
etc, etc, but I’ve never seen a study or comprehensive article
on inlet placement. The inlet ramping is also highly important.
Makes me wonder why the latest restart models of the Cessna’s
didn’t implement same. I know LoPresti did similar with
differing success.

Unfortunately not. I can tell you that my oil cooler cools extremely
well and I still haven't shaped the inlet lip correctly.
