Sounds like the Vigenite, an all aluminum version of the VariViggen designed by one of my Canadian customers.  It is flying (13B powered) and is currently for sale.  It is an absolutely beautiful plane.

I saw some English guy had an aluminum Long-EZ looking craft but never heard if it flew. 
 
Like many things it is probably more difficult than it first looks.

my hangar mate loves long EZ's but also hates fiberglass and wondered if anyone had ever designed an AL longEZ?  In the optimistic light that keeps us all going, "doesn't seem like it would be that difficult :-)" kevin
