The side plates (iron) have some kind of treatment that penetrates them shallowly. Ernest, You are correct. The housings are porous chrome. Don’t think Mazda invented nikasil but I’m sure they tested it. I know there were several companies testing it or running it in the Early 70’s. Bill I was looking into nikasil coatings and was surprised to read that it was originally developed by Mazda for the rotary engines. I thought the rotor housings were chrome plated. Is it really nikasil instead?
