Hi Finn,
While it has been done, I certainly would not do it. Too little up side and too much bad downside. With no load rotary engines have been know to reach destructive rpms before being shut down, if the throttle should be open a bit too much.

Subject: [FlyRotary] First engine run -- prop or not?
1) Without prop any vibration will be from engine and PSRU and can inspect engine (leaks, etc.) with no fear of prop.
2) With prop less chance of over rev and some cooling air through rads and oil cooler.
What do you think?
Finn
