Greetings,

In=20 talking with Tracy this morning, I found that there's an undocumented = (in my=20 manual) brightness setting for the EM-2.  You can cycle through the = 4=20 different brightness levels by hitting the Ack button on any screen but = the=20 timer (I think).  Anyway, I suspected that I had changed the = brightness=20 without knowing it, and sure enough, that was the case.  I found it = on the=20 2nd brightest setting, rather than the brightest.  This is a whole = lot=20 brighter than what I had, so it will be better during daylight = operation. =20 Tracy did say that it can still wash out at times though.  In = retrospect,=20 it's still better than the RMI that I had in my RV-8, because when that = went=20 black due to heat, you were screwed until it cooled off.  At least = I can=20 shade the EM-2 to read it if necessary.

Hey=20 Finn, I know you don't have the cowl extensions on your plane, but do = you have=20 the rear of the cowl cheeks blocked off, or are they open?  I'm = thinking=20 they're probably blocked off, but I can't recall for sure.  I = looked at=20 installing mine today, and realized that it was going to require = significant=20 work, since the rear cheek bulkhead doesn't come close to fitting.  = After=20 looking at it a while, I decided (rationalized) that it would be better = (easier)=20 to leave these open for now, to get extra cooling for the first flight = (fly=20 sooner). I'm also deferring the work on the ring of the cowl behind = the=20 spinner that isn't quite aligned with the thrust angle.  The = smallest=20 gap is 1/8", and the largest is 3/4", so it's close enough for = now. =20 Amazing how much progress I can make by putting things off to later=20 :-)

I=20 should be very close to flying by Sunday, but it will certainly be = another week=20 or so, after that.
