I recently came across Russel Sherwood.
He has a belly cooler on his Glasair IRG works well in all regimes and I expect that this is because its picking up good prop air.
His Glasair is powered by a Subaru 6 cylinder naturally aspirated EG33 producing ~215hp.
Just recently he broke the speed record in his class of the Sport Aircraft League 227.3 knots over 150 mile course.
He reports maintaining 190-195F in all regimes including racing.
Scoop opening was originally 33 in^2 but reduced it to 27 in^2
Core is 16" x 15" x 2.5" = 600 in^3
Duct work appear to not follow K&M etc and he required directional vanes so I think efficiency could be improved.
He did a great job.
