Andrew,  I self insure as the $5000 was a bit hot.  I have already survived for 8 years, so I have that amount to spend already.  I will however follow up with QBE as I am the VP of SAAA and Qbe are the SAAA insurers.  Will let you know what I find.  Neil.

Hi Andrew

I used to be with qbe and they had no issues with the rotary, not sure why they wouldn't now

What's the go getting insurance in Australia? Neil Unger and Steve Izett, have you found rotary friendly insurers?  My broker is struggling to find a company to even negotiate with, apparently because of the engine, even though the plane has been built under the SAAA builder assist program. QBE who are supposed to be the SAAA insurers for Experimental aircraft seem to be the worst to deal with.

I'm ready for my CoA, so probably going to self insure for hull, may still be able to get liability and pilot cover, to protect my other assets in case the insurers are correct in their assumption of my ability (or lack of) to construct and pilot a safe aircraft.
