Bill,
I know what you mean about pouring in wind.  In my hangar where I normally fuel it is not a problem.  For trips if it is going to be windy I put the oil in used pint-size plastic bottles of Marvel Mystery oil.  They have a long neck with a narrow opening that is easy to put a finger over.   I hold my finger over the top until it is below the opening of the fuel tank.  Then the small opening allows it to come out at a rate that is not too fast in case you don't want to use the whole bottle.

Bill,

I keep a soft sided 12 pack cooler that has a hard plastic liner in the baggage compartment. I holds windshield cleaner\ soft rag, partial roll of shop towels, small spray bottle of Simple Green, and one to four bottles of oil depending on trip. I like to carry at least one 16 oz bottle for short trips.  Half a bottle of oil for 10 gallons. Easy to measure with the marks on the bottle. I wrap a couple of shop towels around the bottle neck before pouring to minimize the mess. Install fuel cap and clean up with Simple Green if needed.

Subject: [FlyRotary] Method of adding oil to fuel

I decided to add oil to the fuel as I do the fill up back when I was building.  That was not a problem for a long time because I was buying fuel in a couple of 55 gal drums and hauling them on a trailer.  I would add the oil to the drum before I left the hangar to go to the gas station and then just fill the drums.

The first time that I tried to do this at an airport, it turned out to be a PITA!   The wind was blowing and it was cold and the oil was stringing out all over me and the wing.  Quite a mess!

This makes me start to think of how can I measure and add this oil in a neat clean and easy way.  Now I know I am not the first guy to try and gas up on a windy day so has anybody figured out how to do this in a cute way?

I discovered a long time ago that the best inventions I can come up with come off this list.  How do you guys do this?

Bill
