Bill, just go to flyrotary search and type “starter position”  … you’ll get the whole list at the bottom of this email … in the middle is Al’s original input and his photos.

Ed, by rotating the engine, you placed the starter on the 9 oclock position, then you moved it back to the 6 oclock.  I suppose the radiator or something was in the way?  I need to move the starter to the 9 oclock because I would like to put the radiator on the bottom if I can.

 I had thought that the holes should be pretty precise.  I can tell by your pics that precision might be overvalued.  :>)  What did you use to cut the large hole?  A hole saw? 

 Does anybody know where the discussion that Tracy was talking about with the Al Gietzen method would be located?

For those using Tracy's re-drive, and find a problem with the 6:00
starter position, here are some pics of another place to put using the
existing mounting bolts - about a 9:30 position.

The 6:00 position hit a cross member on my mount; and I wanted to get it
away from my exhaust going by on the other side.  Very carefully found
the new center point for the starter shaft; machined a new mount hole;
drilled one new bolt hole in the starter mount flange to get the right
bolt spacing; cut off the bottom of the adapter plate.
