after thinking a lot about the risks and realizing that the plane is a luxury i could get by without, if i was still alive, i dropped all of my rv-6a insurance.

If you were speaking only of hull insurance, I would agree.  I don't have hull on my RV-3.  Liability is another matter.  If your plane happens to hit a house or two, or more likely a parked plane or two, you won't just be getting by without the plane.  Realizing how greedy, and sleazy the insurance industry is, you have to realize that you will be sued by the insurance company who covers the property you damaged.  You may then be getting by without a bunch of money, and a percentage of your wages for a long long time.  I had insurance too, but you gotta weigh the risks of going naked (so to speak <g>).
