Group: I am also firmly in the Alternative engine camp for many reasons. However the primary reason is I think a Rotary(particularly a 3 rotor) is an elegant way to turn a prop. Having said that I would also respond to this: "Even though there are dozens of examples of people doing just fine with their rotaries that didn't require $20K?",. I can not come even close to 20K to build a firewall forward package that(in my limited opinion)in my experience, can not be done. After totaling up ALL the costs from engine core purchase to engine management systems . Overhaul of existing engine. Turbo/intake/exhaust system(all Custom) and the list goes on too radiators ,oil coolers, intercoolers, plumbing. You get the idea.....more like 30K for something that i feel is airworthy. And then I need a prop to handle all that torque and HP that the old Contisaurus just could come come up with. In the end ..for me the decision to go against the flow is not about the Money. This is just going to be one SWEET PEICE that not everyone has.... it will be reliable and and safe. I know this because ,as has been pointed out. there have pioneers before us to blaze the trail. A large body of experience to draw on. Soooo I think if (as has been pointed out already) I am careful to listen and learn from the voices of experience. This can be done safely. If I want to be bull headed and operate only on my skill sets. Odds are it will become a disaster. Just my opinion......sorry for the getting up on my soap box:)...by the way Mark you are right on in your observations as well. Thanks to all of you who contribute o this body of knowledge so we can be safe for those who will take the time to learn about there passion
