Maybe
it has something to do with how much of a load the engine is under on the
ground vs. in flight. Anyway, I'm on the right track .

I noticed the same thing – slight difference.
When tuned on the ground there would be just a missed beat at the stage point
in the air. It would certainly get my attention until I realized what it
was. Tuning in flight made it go away, and staging is seamless. It
makes some sense – there is a different rpm vs Map relationship when in
flight.
Looks like I’ll be back out doing
some re-tuning when the weather clears. I thought I was done with all
that some years ago; but things change.
