All the subject parts were replaced and the airplane= was flown this past Sunday … post-flight inspection yesterday reveal= ed no more oil leak – YEAH!!

The tension bolt most of you on the list already kno= w about – replaced one tapered bolt with one heavier NEW bolt and re-= torqued them all.

The rear oil seal was replaced because of a nagging = oil leak for some time. My comment here is that the engine was originally a= standard transmission, so I had to purchase a flex plate/ring gear and cou= nter weight for an automatic, both of which were cleaned and painted prior to installation.  The counter= weight has a very small contact surface with the rear oil seal as seen by = about 1/8 of paint worn-off, so I wonder if that slight amount of surface w= ear and possibly assembling the seal and counter weight DRY may have contributed to the leak.  I can’= ;t remember whether they were oiled prior to first assembly or not – = so I definitely oiled both this time around and polished a larger area on t= he counter weight with emery cloth.

The thrust bearing (front planet) was entirely my fa= ult.  It must have slipped out of alignment during re-assembly of the = PSRU and got pinched between the housing and planet carrier … anyway = a bad sounding POP was heard as the PSRU attach bolts were being tightened up … a new one with lots of grease replac= ed the broken one.
