Thanks Mark..........Will be very interested to hear if the new coils help or stop the miss !!........

Kelly,

The problem with the Renesis CAS was totally different.  It would run fine up to a certain rpm and then start stumbling and missing big time.  The current problem is just an occasional mis-fire of one rotor face.

Could I have some crosstalk in my wiring harness?  Sure, I guess anything is possible.  I definitely wouldn't rule it out at this point.

New coils came today.  I hope to get them installed over the weekend, but rain is predicted for both Saturday and Sunday, so a test flight may not be possible.

Mark,
As I recall you changed from the Renesis wheel/sensor back to the stock

OK Al, I'll tell you my reason for upgrading.  My engine has always had an occasional intermittent misfire, usually on climbout but occasionally in cruise.  It happens infrequently just to one compression cycle and then it clears up.  Obviously, this does not instill confidence with pax, or myself either.  I've tried various solutions, but the problem persists.  I'm hoping the hotter spark from the 585 coils will cure this annoying problem.  I'll report back after installing the new coils and test flying.

So I’m still waiting for an answer to the question I posed a few days back. Do we have any real evidence that the higher current spark is needed in our application; or is going to result in any better performance?

Perhaps it’s obvious to someone, but I’m wondering whether it comparable to watts/channel on a stereo. 50 per channel into good speakers is enough to drive you out of your home; but the salesperson will try to convince you that 1000 watts must be 10 times better.  The D580 certainly makes a very good spark, which ignites the mixture just fine.  Once the arc is made and the fuel molecules are burning, does 120 ma spark give you anything that a 60 ma spark doesn’t if the voltage is the same?  Presumably it is just a matter of spark duration.

Save me the need to do some researchJ
