You have the benefit of the fact that the engine WILL run.  Get it running to a fast idle, and use a Windex bottle or some other type of mister to spray a pint or so of water into the intake.   Be careful that you don't spray so fast as to choke the engine, and the resulting steam will strip all the carbon out.  How to spray without getting caught up in a propeller is left as an exercise for the reader.
