I had not realized at the time (boy, have I gained an education messing with this alternative engine stuff {:>)) that simply putting a circuit breaker in the field coil line would not necessarily turn off the alternator when it was pulled. I have verified that pulling the CB after the alternator is turning does NOT turn it off - at least not mine. But, I never had an automobile alternator ever run away voltage wise (all have simply quite producing adequate voltage), so decided to leave well enough alone. I figured my modifications might reduce reliability and never the kind of problem most feared in aircraft usage, so have not altered/modified it. But, other's have. It would be interesting to take a survey and find out how many on the list have or have not modified their alternators.
