Jeff,

Is your RV-7 flying yet? If not, why not try the standard "hold the switch" installation before trying something different? I flew an RV-6A for a couple hundred hours with this setup and found it pretty easy to live with. No flap position indicator in my airplane but it was pretty easy to tell when more or less flap was needed and where you were by pitch attitude once you got used to it.

My -4 has manual flaps which I chose to keep it simple. If i were doing it over today I'd put in electric flaps with a simple rocker switch either on the stick or throttle (the 6A switch was panel mounted).

Subject: [FlyRotary] Flap Control?

Hello All,

I am probably a little off-topic here, but you guys provide such great information that I thought I’d run this one past you.

I’m looking for a flap controller for an RV-7 that mimics the good-old C-172 flap controller.

I like the C-172 system because it:

  1. does not require the pilot to hold the switch until the flaps are in the desired position
  2. give a visual indication of both the selected position and the actual flap position
  3. allows the pilot to select any flap position, no matter what the current flap position is

I don’t like the C-172 system because it:

  1. is full of speedometer cables and limit switches

Does anyone know of any after-market devices that accomplish these goals?  After Googleing for a while I found a few, but none that meet these criteria.  Perhaps I overlooked something…

As always, any suggestions are much appreciated,

-Jeff
